Firing

An image is drawn onto paper and transferred to a plastic sheet. The plastic sheet is laid onto a flat slab of clay and the image is transferred to the clay.

The clay is sculpted, carved and molded with clay tools. The work is left to dry very slowly. The sculpture is now at the "greenware" state.

The greenware is then placed into a kiln and fired at 1800 degrees for 6 - 8 hours. The piece is now at the "bisque" state.

The bisque sculpture is then painted with a variety of glazes and then re-fired at 1800 degrees.

At this stage, oil or acrylic paint, jewels (such as pearls, opals or garnets) or gold leaf may be applied to accent or highlight unique features of the piece.

The sculpture is now complete and can be used for display.
